SO....
Evidently Biploar people are not supposed to take steroids. I'm not talking muscle-pumping steroids...nobody should take those. No, the supposedly innocuous kind they give you to keep your body from killing you.
Bipolar Disorder + Steroids = DOOOOOOOOOOOOOM.
Well...maybe that's a few too many OOOs, but the fact remains that they alter hte brains chemistry enough that Bipolar peeps can/will go into ' psychotic episodes '. For people with regular Bipolar I, this means Mania. For people with Bipolar II (*waves hand*) this means depression. So...no more steroids for me, no matter how much of my body is covered with poison ivy. Nope. Not no way not no how.

PSA aside, my bench is finally set up in the new house and a few things have trickled out here and there. I've done a couple of commissions and a piece of two just because. I'm still trying to work around...er...Work...and I've had a blasted sinus infection for 2 months now. Stupid weather. Stupid state of Kent-allerg-ucky. Bleah. Maybe we should move to Alaska.

I'm trying to catch up on all of my messages here on DA. I had about 800 and something so I'm trying to go through them all. Wow. I feel special and neglectful at the same time.

I finally re-enrolled at EKU. I debated back and forth as to whether or not I was going to but I think I'm finally clear of the raging brain 'roids and I know I need to keep on with my art-stuffs. Quite frankly I get all icky in the head if I don't.

Right now my focus is on sewing in preparation for Pennsic. We're going for just the 2nd week but I need a whole new wardrobe not to mention a performance in our cmap for the leader's wedding. (No pressure there...) Go weight gain and moving! Speaking of which...so many boxes left to unpack...I have missing boots and underpants and this is a bad bad thing!

Oh...and I dyed my hair red with Henna. I'm quite happy with it and may be doing a few friends' hair as well.

No... I think that number of OOO's was perfectly adequate.

For the poison Ivy... see if you can get some samples of Elidel from your doctor. It's been a life save for me; keeps me out of the hospital a lot of summers because I'm so allergic to poison ivy & oak and can't use any of the steroidal meds.
You're talking about the weather here making you sick... I don't know if you have asthma/allergic problems... but I would advise staying away from things like Advair as well.
Agoraphobia is a b*tch to top everything else off.

Take care!

Another view.
I'll have to ask about the Elidel. I had it on most of my neck, both arm and all the way around my torso. I went to "The Little CLinic" because my regular clinic was closed when I got off of work and the NP just gave me a round of super steroids to stop the inflammation. From now on I'll be extra super dilligent about avoiding the stupid evil vines, although I thoght I had to begin with. :(

Last week I asked my Psychiatric Nurse about it and she pretty much told me to avoid taking steroids at all costs unless it is a do or die situation. She'd had patients come in in full delusional psychosis (trying to catch bugs that weren't there) due to steroids. *shiver*

I do have rather nasty alleriges AND asthma but I pretty much stick to just my albuterol inhaler, even though it makes me jittery. I've heard bad things about Advair too. A friend of mine has reeeeeally bad asthma and they had her on a couple of different inhalers and I remember she really did not like the Advair. For now I'm on Allegra and Flonase and I regularly take Sudafed to help with all the gunk. I tried taking Tylenol Allergy Sinus for a while but eventually it quit working and just made me feel zonky. I'm going to see an ENT at the end of the month so hopefully we can figure out what the deal is.

Take care of youself as well!

yucky... yeah.. i have some strange rash too that is slowy moving.. I get it every summer.. its not poision ivy either. I am trying to see if it will go away on its own this time.. or else i will have to get the stupid steroids to make it go away again.
Kentucky is infamous for allergies. I know my work loves me when i come in everyday sneezing..

It sounds like maybe it could be Tinea Versicolor [link] which my Mum has struggled with for years. It only gets bad in the summer. She had it on her eyelids once. Not pleasant but it's treated easily enough with OTC cream.
I'm sure my officemate is sick of the sniffling, sneezing, coughing and wheezing at this point. Just one more reason to move away from here!

Hmmmm. Hopefully you can get it diagnosed and treated soon. I know rash + heat = misery.

Yeah, certain medicines can screw with one's brain chemistry. Unfortunately, "big pharma" & most doctors don't tell you about that. Gotta find that info on your own.
I was surprised to find that a lot of doctors were unaware of the steroid+mentall illness = doom issue. My LCSW showed me this great site that Docs are using now to check for interactions and the like but us lay-folk can use too:
