Devious Journal Entry

Thu Dec 4, 2008, 10:41 AM
The chest tattooing starts a week from tomorrow. I can not WAIT! I'll post photos in scraps as we go along. The first session will be outlining I think, then shading the next. It also depends on how my not-cancer surgery scar takes the ink.

My metals final is coming along nicely. Still a shit load of work to do on it BUT I'm working on it. Mum is going to help me rough cut the ash wood this weekend so I can start the carving. I'll do the filing, forming and prepping for enameling today in class hopefully. *fingers crossed*

I overslept today and was 2 hours late to work but I feel a lot better than if I'd gotten up at 8:30 instead of 11:15. The boss is on vacation so there's a little less intimidation in the office.

Does this carving have to be in a hardwood? Pine or balsa would be much easier to handle. Lighter, too.
:iconbataleigh:
This particular piece does need to be carved out of Ash since I'm recreating Yggdrasil, which was an Ash tree according to the Eddas. Otherwise I'd be all about some Pine, I love the smell of it.

Sounds like fun, though, despite the "Ohmygodwhere'smyhead??!!!"ness of it all. ;P

Good luck with everything! :blowkiss:

I see.

Was the Yggdrasil thing for this piece, or do you have religious reasons for it? I'm curious.
:iconbataleigh:
The piece had to have personal meaning, so yes, it is a religious piece for me. I've been carving talismans and things this semester, inscribed with runes, so I guess this is sort of an extension of that train of thought. :)

Hmmm...sounds pagan. I didn't know you were pagan. :|
:iconbataleigh:
It is. I've been following a "pagan path" ever since my family was excommunicated from a church when I was 12. I don't subscribe to any one theology, per se, more like carving my own way out.
Although...if you ask the preacher of the Baptist church next door to my house I'm a Catholic. It seemed like a better lie at the time when confronted with an invitation to services. *shrugs*

 Lying to a preacher... That's classic! :D
:iconbataleigh:
I try to keep it classy... :lmao:
I figured that was the easiest way to nip the weekly invites to services in the bud. In a year and a half I've only been invited twice so I think it worked!
